I am a student in Physical Science subject stream. What are the subjects I can follow for my B.Sc. General Degree?

Answer: There eight (8) subject combinations you can follow:

  1. Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science
  2. Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics
  3. Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Chemistry
  4. Mathematics, Industrial Mathematics, Physics
  5. Mathematics, Industrial Mathematics, Chemistry

I am a student in Biological Science subject stream. What are the subjects I can follow for my B.Sc. General Degree?

Answer: There four (4) subject combinations you can follow:

  1. Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
  2. Chemistry, Botany, Physics
  3. Chemistry, Zoology, Physics
  4. Botany, Zoology, Physics

Can I change my subject combination after I registered for a subject combination?

Answer: Students are provided with two weeks of period for changing subject combination at the beginning of the academic year (Level I). There will be another week for students to make a request for getting subject combination if they have acceptable reason for not getting subject combinations finalized within the given period. There will be a fee to be paid (Rs. 500/=) if a student need to get subject combinations changed after that within the first half of the first Semester.

Can I change the subject combinations after Semester I of Level I?

Answer: No.

Can I get one year of leave for starting my studies?

Answer: A student may request for one year leave for starting academic activities if he/she has a hardship or medical reason. The approval only be granted by the Senate of the university after the recommendation of the Faculty Board. Only the students with hardships or medical reasons could apply for one year leave to start academic activities with the next batch.  It is normally a condition that the extension of one year period will be granted subject to the availability of vacancies at the next intake.

Can I select course units within a subject as I wish?

Answer: The compulsory course units under each subject as mentioned in the Students Handbook must be followed by the students. There are some course units which are optional for students at Level II and Level III. to start academic activities with the next batch.  It is normally a condition that the extension of one year period will be granted subject to the availability of vacancies at the next intake.

How many credits should I follow for a subject?

Answer: A student must follow course units of 24 credits as Degree course units under a subject for a student to claim that he/she followed that subject as one of the subjects for his/her degree programme.extension of one year period will be granted subject to the availability of vacancies at the next intake.

What is the difference between Degree and Non-Degree course units?

Answer: Students can choose some optional course units as Degree course units or Non-Degree course units. Only the results of Degree Course units will be considered for the calculation of GPA of course units followed by a student. Results of Non-Degree course units will not be considered for the calculation of GPA.
