Activity 01.
Organized a lecture on “Ornamental fish diseases and preventive measures” on 25th of March 2015 at Physics Auditorium, Faculty of Science with the collaboration of SLASS section D Recourse person: Mr. Palitha Chandrarathne, OIC, Ornamental fish breeding and training center, Rambodagalla.

Activity 02.
Contributed to the workshop on “Animal Diversity and Preservation Techniques conducted for Environmental pioneers in Galle District” on 18th of June 2015 at the Rumassala Soba Ketha. Dr. DHN Munasinghe conducted the workshop. Organized by: Central Environmental Authority, Galle branch.

Activity 04
Organized an activity on Stuffing and preserving dead animals on 22nd June 2015 and 16th March 2016 at Department of Zoology – University of Ruhuna. Dead specimens of animals, esp rare ones are delivered by various parties to the department in order to preserve them for educational display. When such specimens of dead bodies of rare animals were received at the department, Zoological Society organized group activity for preparing the display specimens from those specimens. The proper scientific practice of stuffing is followed with the help of the technical staff of the department, under the supervision of the academics. One such activity was conducted by the 2015 members using a specimen of dead fishing cat Prionailurus viverrinus (‘Handun Diviya’) (dead by a road hit). It has become a popular exhibit in many educational exhibition events.

Activity 05
Participated in the “Activity day at Madu Ganga” on 27th of August 2015 at Madu Ganga coastal environmental center, Balapitiya. Several members of the Zoological society got an opportunity to participate in this acitivity conducted by the NSF. Conducted by: National Science Foundation – Sri Lanka

Activity 06
Zoological Society – 2015 designed a T-Shirt for the first time with the motto of ‘Save wildlife- Save our Future’. It was an attraction for many students and staff of the university.

Participated in the “World Science Day” National programme on 9th November 2015 at BMICH. Dr. DHN Munasinghe accompanied the society representatives to the event.Organized by: National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka

Activity 01
Organized a Seminar on “How to manage Infertility” in June 2016 at Prof: Alawattagoda Premadasa Auditorium, Faculty of Science. Resource person: Dr. Raveendra Weerasinghe

Conduted a lecture and a specimen demonstration on “Preservation Techniques” at the “Viduruth Nnnada 2016” – Richmond College Science Day on 19th September 2016 at C. W. W. Kannangara Auditorium, Richmond College, Galle.

Organized an activity for the Science Faculty Day of University of Ruhuna on 14th September 2016.

Activity 04
Several members participated in the “Digital Story Telling” workshop organized by National Science Foundation on 24th August 2016 for the members of the university science societies registered with the NSF. NSF organized Digital storytelling workshop for undergraduate students of Lankan Universities in order to provide a platform for students to relay their scientific information in a more creative and effective framework. The workshop provided important guidelines to prepare video presentations of the research work that had been carried out by the students.


Note: The society was registered for the year 2016/2017 only at the end of the academic year, and therefore, no activities could be properly planned during the year 2017.

Activity 01
A seminar on “Marine Pollution” was successfully conducted on 19th December 2018.Which was organized by Zoological Society of Faculty of Science. Dr. P.B. Turney Pradeep Kumara, who is the senior lecturer of Department of Oceanography and Marine Geology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology and the General Manager of Marine Environment Authority (MEPA) was the guest lecturer for the seminar. Participants were provided with knowledge on marine ecosystem, current status of marine pollution, causes for marine pollution and also effects of marine pollution.

For the practical knowledge of students who are following Zoology as a subject, animal skulls were collected and prepared to use as lab specimen.

Maintenance of the Society Notice board
The notice board of Zoological society at the Department of Zoology was given a fresh look and it was maintained throughout the year by the Zoological society.

Activity 02
Beach cleanup (Matara Beach road area)
During the academic year 2018/2019, the society was able to conduct a beach cleaning programme, “International Coastal Clean-up" on the 21st of September 2019. We cleaned the whole coast line of Matara beach road area with the help of many eco-lovers.

Activity 03
Seminar on ‘HUMAN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND INFERTILITY’
With the purpose of improving knowledge of the university community about “Human reproductive health and Infertility”, the Zoological society organized a workshop on that topic which was conducted by Prof. R.S.J. Lenora (Senior lecturer, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna).

Activity 01
The Zoological Society successfully organized a Cross-word Puzzle Contest on Faculty Day, which was held online via zoom on 4th of August 2021, and valuable reload prizes were given for the winners.
