The Innovation and Invention exhibition is an annual event organized by the Faculty of Science, University of Ruhuna, since 2013. Main objective of the exhibition is to encourage the young generation to think in extra dimensions and to enhance their creative and innovative skills. It provides a platform for university and school students to demonstrate their innovative products and novel ideas to their peers and the public at large. Although development of high technology needs advance and specific subject knowledge, many products used in everyday life are very simple and need only creative thinking and clear imagination to make such items. It is inspiring to see students bring out their hidden talents enthusiastically to create new products to enhance quality of life of citizens.

Participation of university students and students from schools for the exhibition during last two years was very encouraging and the total number of inventions presented at 2014 exhibition was 290. More than 5000 students visited the exhibition last year. With this back ground we are organizing the Innovation & Invention exhibition -2017 more widely and scheduled to be held during 17th & 18th of May at the premises of the Faculty of Science, University of Ruhuna, Matara. We have informed schools in southern province through the provisional education ministry to participate in the exhibition and we are receiving very positive feedback from them. School exhibits will be categorized under different age groups as well as invention types.
